Chris first experimented with airbrushes in the early 60’s and has become one of the most widely recognised artists using this medium.
He has created over a thousand book cover artworks for authors such as Isaac Asimov, E. E. Doc Smith, Arthur C. Clarke, A. E. Van Vogt and Philip K. Dick and many others.
He has also worked in film design on Dune, Superman, Alien, Flash Gordon, Stanley Kubrick’s A.I and Marvel’s Guardians of the Galaxy released in 2014. More recently he was at Ealing Studios, London, working with Black Mirror.

Showing Chris’s versatility of styles, in 1972 he created the black and white line work for
The Joy of Sex, A Gourmet Guide to Love Making in collaboration with Charles Raymond.
He now works from his studio in Guernsey and is enjoying working in new mediums such as oil and collage, as well as continuing to develop his airbrush technique. In August 2014 he was a Guest of Honour at LonCon3 SF convention held at ExCel London and created a new painting for the cover of the Souvenir Magazine.
In October he will be a Guest of Honour at the Nante SF festival, Utopiales in France.
Chris Foss’s ground-breaking science fiction art revolutionised paperback covers from the early 1970s. Raising the bar for realism and invention, his trademark battle-weary spacecraft, dramatic alien landscapes and crumbling brutalist architecture irrevocably changed the aesthetic of science fiction art and cinema.
