Frank Pavich, interviewing Chris in his studio, England February 2011. In this short excerpt from Frank’s Dune documentary Chris recounts creating visuals of Pirate Ship. The documentary includes interviews with Jodorowsky in Paris and other key Dune people. It’s a fascinating exploration of the story behind the famous for not being made ‘original’ 1970’s Dune.

We had a great time interviewing Chris! Such a character! We didn’t want to leave but unfortunately we had to make an overnight drive back to Paris. We would have loved to spend a week with him!! We’re furiously working away on this so stay tuned for more updates!
That was an epic round trip from Paris to Dorset + a huge pub lunch prior to the interview and then up early the next day for more filming, I hope you caught some zzz’s on the ferry back to France! Chris really enjoyed hanging out with you all too, I’m guessing you’re all a similar age to when he was working on Dune. Do keep us posted on the site of any updates.
Lovely seeing this clip related to one of my favorite Foss paintings. Chris and Imogene, thanks again for the terrific personal treatment on my print of the pirate ship. Looking forward to seeing the Dune documentary if/when it makes its way across to the US. Good luck with the film, Frank.

Hi Adam
I’m glad you got to see the clip as Chris is talking about one of your long time favourite artworks as well as waving a similarly battered 21st Century Foss book as yours, I imagine (have you still got your copy?). Apparently Sony Pictures Classics has announced a theatrical release date of March 7 2014. Thanks so much for your kind words regarding the print, much appreciated. Keep in touch, Best wishes, Imogene
Hi Chris,
My name is Olly and I’m a researcher on The Jonathan Ross Show.
I was hope you might be able to help me on short notice!
We were looking at the possibility of using a still of one of your illustrations from The Joy of Sex (1972) on the show and I would love to know if able to give permission to use one?
Best wishes,
Olly
