Chris signing Hardware before the main event for contributors: Jean Giraud, Moebius and Alejandro Jodorowsky.

Signed copies of Hardware are available from Forbidden Planet online, see link on the right.

Thanks to everyone who headed into central London on this rainy evening and queued up to see Chris. It was really lovely to meet you all and Chris was very touched by the large turn out and that many of you had clearly been following his career for years as proven by the large pile of Foss books and covers brought by some to the signing!

Chris stayed till 9pm and signed 150 of the Standard Editions of Hardware which are now available from Forbidden Planet online. The 400 Special Editions should be available from mid next week (week commencing 25th July 2011).

We ended the evening with drinks on the 33rd floor of the 1960’s Centre Point with friends and Hardware’s designer Rian Hughes, who originated the idea for the book, designed and exhaustively researched the artwork.

Chris’ first London studio was around the corner in Ham Yard, Soho and the building features in one of his covers, the Medusa Touch. www.devicefonts.co.uk

I got my copy of the 400 last night and what a fabulous tome it is. I like the section at the back which shows all the covers, calendars, jigsaws, posters etc. Thank you Imogene and Rian for creating a wonderful reference book of Chris’s work.

Hello Joseph, thank you so much for all your hard working sourcing so many of the book covers for this project, I know this was a big help for Rian and we both really appreciate all your time and effort scanning and sending us the artwork. Until I started this project I had no idea Chris has done so many covers and new ones were landing right up until the deadline. All the best, Imogene

Wish I could have been there! Would have been great to have met Rian too, both these guys have been a huge inspiration and they are pioneers in their respective fields. Cannot wait to get a special edition copy!!!

Chris, Imogene, Rian – great to meet you all, and some fellow fans too, last night at the signing. A really fun and friendly atmosphere and great to hear some of Chris’ anecdotes and insights, and watch him merrily sketch away in people’s books and memorabilia.

I suppose I’ve waited to meet Chris since I was 10 years old and first gazed in awe at his visions of deep space. The man is a portal to what the far reaches of the universe could be like! Gargantuan robots stomping across desolate landscapes with fighter jets buzzing overhead.
Thanks to Imogene and all who organised the event. And a special thanks to Chris who was happy to sketch a design on the inset for me.
    Thank you!
