I mean the illustration on the cover of E.E.Doc Smith The Imperial stars (5th row on the left) is from the artist Peter Jones. He did some covers in that serie too. JP

Whilst we’re on the subject, can anyone confirm whether Chris’ work ever appeared in the Terran Trade Authority books by Stewart Cowley? They are often cited by folks as being an early introduction to Chris’ paintings. I have most of the books – Great Space Battles, Spacewreck (my favourite), Spacecraft 2000 – 2100 AD, and Starliners, and can’t find any of his among these titles. However, the cover of Starliners, for instance, features a ship by Jeffrey Ridge that bears an uncanny resemblance to Chris’ ‘riverboat’ concepts for the Nostromo in Alien.
Flicking through these books it’s clear to see there were two major influences on spaceship design at the time; Chris and 2001: A Space Odyssey.
